Due to continued growth, the Operations and Planning Division of Tracsis Group plc (www.tracsis.com) have a fantastic opportunity for an Assistant Product Owner. If successful, you will be working on industry-critical products that are used across the railway industry.

Tracsis Operations and Planning Systems Division is a leading provider of software and services for the planning and management of mass transit systems.

We develop and supply a range of software products which are used extensively within the rail and other public transport sectors, covering all aspects of operations planning and management including timetabling, resource and rolling stock planning and optimisation, real time performance and control, service recovery, incident management and delay attribution, retail services and delay repay.

We also offer a consultancy service made up of highly experienced industry specialists, advising on all elements of rail operational planning and modelling including performance improvement, franchise and concession support, data capture and evaluation, as well as innovative bespoke software development capabilities.

Assistant Product Owner

As Assistant Product Owner, you would have the exciting opportunity to work with both rail/bus customers and software teams, whilst having the opportunity to develop both your customer and technical skills. Product Owners are the conduit between Tracsis’ clients’ ways of working and the software team building/maintaining the Tracsis suite of products. You will be an essential component to Tracsis building high quality, fit for purpose software products.

In the Assistant Product Owner role you will be working alongside a motivated team of developers and Product Owners who are passionate about delivering the best for their customers.

You will be working with rail operational planning and optimisation systems. Your customers will be Train Operating Companies/Bus Operators. A good understanding of the operational railway is preferred, although a candidate with other relevant experience and the willingness to learn will be considered.


Future career opportunities could look like (but are not limited to): Product Owner across our suite of current or new Tracsis Products, Business Development promoting our products to new customers.

Key responsibilities:

  • You will be responsible for supporting and directing the evolution of Tracsis products by managing and analysing items such as; new features, changes to existing features, bug fixes, software infrastructure improvements.
  • Being proactive in learning to use the suite of Tracsis software, with a view to becoming an expert in our desktop products.
  • You will be confident to share your product knowledge with other areas of the business, as required.
  • You will be able to understand and appreciate the tasks/work undertaken by users of Tracsis desktop products and recommend how they can better use the product and how the product could be improved to meet their needs.
  • Supporting the administration and prioritisation of the software team’s workload
  • Communicating effectively with the software team to build a common understanding of user needs.
  • Managing customer accounts and customer meetings

Key Activities:

  • Present product demonstrations to existing and future customers
  • Support/run customer workshops and user sessions (online and in person)
  • Understand current and future customer processes
  • Analyse feature designs and solutions, evaluating benefit to clients and to business growth
  • Take ownership of product training-
  • Prepare and deliver customer/user training sessions utilising relevant data and examples
  • Articulating customer and product requirements to the Product Owner and software development team by creating a common understanding
  • Provide input into future product roadmaps , prioritising new features and functionality as appropriate
  • Provide testing environments for new product features prior to release.


  • All applicants must be eligible to live and work within the UK.
  • Leeds or Manchester based- hybrid remote/office working. Commutable travel distance of our head office in Leeds or our Manchester Piccadilly offices.
  • Customer visits online and in person (some travel required)

Essential Skills:

  • Analytical skills- the ability to see a problem and work out multiple possible solutions
  • Understanding of the operational railway
  • Operations Planning experience and experience using Operations planning software
  • Confidence to convey product information to clients
  • Computer literate and confident in navigating systems
  • Understand and appreciate the tasks/work undertaken by the users of our systems
  • Excellent communicator – ability to convey complex information in lay terms to a non-specialist audience

Desirable Skills:

  • First hand experience of the operational railway (e.g. Planning, Control, Rostering)
  • Train Crew Diagramming Experience
  • First-hand experience of tasks/work undertaken by the users of Tracsis’ products
  • Experience using Tracsis products- BusTRACS/TrainTRACS, TRACS Studio, TRACS-RS, TRACS-TC
  • Exceptional communicator with proven record in a business environment of conveying complex information in lay terms
